DOVER — A motorcyclist and two children were listed in critical condition late Saturday night after an afternoon crash at U.S. 13 and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, according to Dover Police

The accident happened shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday when a silver Chevrolet HHR operated by a 31-year-old female was in the left turn lane of northbound U.S. 13, and preparing to make a left onto Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, police said late Saturday.

Meanwhile, a 31-year-old male was operating a Kawasaki ZX6R on the southbound side of U.S. 13, approaching the same intersection.

Police said the motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed, allegedly weaving in and out of traffic and continued through the intersection as the HHR was turning onto the boulevard. Police said the motorcycle struck the passenger side of the vehicle, causing the motorcycle to flip over the vehicle. The rider was ejected.

The motorcyclist sustained life-threatening injuries with fractures to both arms, legs, pelvis, and multiple internal injuries, police said. He was flown from Kent General Hospital to Christiana Hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

The driver of the HHR was treated for minor injuries and released.

However, her 12-year-old daughter, who was a front-seat passenger, suffered multiple bone fractures and internal injuries. She was flown from Kent General Hospital to Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington in critical condition.

Two rear passengers also were transported to the children's hospital  from Kent General Hospital.

A 6-year-old male, who was seated in the right passenger side seat, suffered multiple bone fractures and a severe cut to his head and face. As of Saturday night, he was listed in critical condition, police said.

A 3-year-old seated in the rear driver side seat suffered minor injuries, but also was transported to children’s hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Dover Police said the Dover Fire Department had to extract one of the passengers in the Chevrolet.

The southbound lanes of U.S. 13 and the eastbound lanes of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard were shut down from 3:11 p.m. until about 6:30 as investigators remained on scene. Police said they learned during the investigation that the motorcycle was reported stolen from Fairfax County, Virginia.

The case remains under investigation.
