Jeffers finished 9 of 14 from the field and grabbed five rebounds as the Blue Hens improved to 6-17 overall and 5-7 in the Colonial Athletic Association. Kory Holden contributed 15 points and seven rebounds, Kyle Anderson added 14 points and Cazmon Hayes chipped in 12 for Delaware, which won at Matthews Arena for the third straight season. The Huskies, who had won their last five conference home games, dropped to 16-9 overall and 8-4 in league play. T.J. Williams led Northeastern with 18 points, while Reggie Spencer added a season-high 14 and David Walked finished with 13. Delaware led 29-25 at the half, but the Huskies exploded out of the second half with 10 consecutive points to quickly take a six-point advantage. However Hayes scored the next seven Delaware points, including an impressive one-handed putback dunk, to put the Blue Hens back in front. The Blue Hens then used a nine-point spurt, capped by an Anderson three-pointer, to go up 47-40 with 10:10 to play. Later a Holden three-point play made it 55-47 with 5:34 remaining, before five straight Huskies points cut the UD margin to three. But Delaware never relinquished the lead, going back up eight at 68-60 on a pair of Anderson free throws with 42 seconds to play. Northeastern make it a 71-68 game with six seconds on the clock, but Anderson drained two more from the stripe to put the game away. “I couldn’t be happier with the effort of our guys today,” said Blue Hen head coach Monté Ross. “A lot of teams would have wilted early in the second half, but the leadership of guys like Kyle (Anderson), Marvin (King-Davis) and Kory (Holden) helped us settle things down. We did a marvelous job of withstanding their run and then going on a run of our own.” Delaware jumped out to an early 12-4 lead following an Anderson three-pointer, but Northeastern countered by scoring 12 of the next 14 points to go in front for the first time on a Quincy Ford triple at the 7:37 mark. The teams were tied in the final minute, before baskets by Jeffers and Anderson gave the Blue Hens a 29-25 edge at the break. Delaware is back home on Tuesday to host James Madison at 8 p.m. in a game that will be televised by The Comcast Network. NOTES: Delaware won its second road game of the season ... Jeffers reached double figures for the fifth time this year. His previous career-high was a 16-point effort at Robert Morris ... Anderson scored in double digits for the sixth consecutive game ...
