Registration opens Oct. 7 for more than 35 five-week classes at University of Delaware Osher Lifelong Learning Institute locations in Lewes and Dover, and online.

Classes begin the week of Oct. 15 and continue through Nov. 19. For detailed descriptions of all courses offered during the second five weeks of Osher Lifelong Learning Institute’s fall semester, and to register, visit olli.udel.edu.

Adults 50 and older interested in current affairs can join former CNN world affairs correspondent and University of Delaware professor Ralph Begleiter as he leads an examination of “Media and Public Opinion in the 2024 Election.” Participants will explore the roles of money, news and social media, advertising, public opinion and more during the current election cycle.

Several classes highlight the critical role of women in government. “America’s First Ladies: The Women Beside the Presidents” reviews the lives and contributions of selected first ladies, while “We Can Do It! Women of the FDR Administration and World War II” explores the accomplishments of women who served in the Roosevelt administration, as well as those in the military and critical industries.

Other course topics include an introduction to codes and ciphers; creative and performing arts; and hands-on activities for crafters and gamers.

The University of Delaware Osher Lifelong Learning Institute program is a volunteer-based learning cooperative for adults age 50-plus, and spouses of any age, to take and teach classes together with no grades, exams or educational prerequisites.

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute annually offers hundreds of live and recorded online courses as well as in-person classes in Dover, Lewes, Ocean View, Newark and Wilmington.

Benefits of membership include University of Delaware library access, a University of Delaware email account and University of Delaware course auditing as well as student discounts, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute social opportunities, concerts and extracurricular activities.

In Delaware and across the country, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute is affiliated with and receives partial support from the Bernard Osher Foundation, a philanthropic organization focused on higher education, lifelong learning and the arts.
