CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — CJ Carr threw for four touchdowns and ran for another and third-ranked Notre Dame leaned on its ground game in regaining control after halftime to beat North Carolina 37-26. The Fighting Irish ran for a season-high 241 yards in this one. They led just 21-20 after UNC's Jaden Jefferson sprinted through the rain for a 98-yard kickoff return to open the second half. But Carr ran for a third-quarter score, then found Nolan James Jr. for a short TD catch to start the fourth. Billy Edwards Jr. threw for three touchdowns to lead UNC.
CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — Darian Mensah adds to his Heisman Trophy resume as No. 4 Miami defeats Clemson 41-13, seizing first place in the Atlantic Coast Conference. On Saturday night, Mensah throws for 227 yards and a touchdown and runs for a 34-yard score. Mark Fletcher Jr. runs for 77 yards and two touchdowns, while Cooper Barkate catches five passes for 98 yards, including a 66-yard TD reception. Freshman Tait Reynolds completes 29 of 43 passes for a career-high 295 yards for Clemson. Miami's defense sacks him five times. Both teams have a bye next weekend before returning to action on October 17.
DALLAS (AP) — Kevin Jennings threw for two touchdowns and ran for a score and No. 21 SMU beat Boston College 25-16 in a soggy defensive struggle. Jennings, the FBS passing leader at 357 yards per game coming in, had only 160 while going 20 of 30. Marques White had three of SMU’s five sacks. One of them forced a fumble by Mason McKenzie and was returned 34 yards by Aakil Washington to the Eagles’ 13-yard line. It set up Jennings’ 14-yard scoring pass to Randy Pittman Jr. Derrick McFall had the other scoring catch. Evan Dickens and Danny Edgehille had scoring grabs for BC.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Jackson Arnold passed and ran for 287 yards and five touchdowns to lead UNLV to a 39-31 victory over California on Saturday. The Rebels led 24-7 at halftime before Cal rallied to go in front 25-24 early in the fourth quarter. Then Arnold completed a 10-yard pass to Keyan Burnett with 9:31 left and ran it in himself from 2 yards with 3:24 remaining. Arnold passed for 177 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 110 yards and 2 TDs
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — CJ Bailey threw for a career-high 373 yards and two touchdowns as NC State held on to beat Louisville 31-28 on Saturday. The Wolfpack improved to 3-2 following their second straight win. Kanoah Vinesett's 28-yard field goal made the difference for the Wolfpack, who led by 14 in the second half. Isaac Brown rushed for 125 yards and a touchdown for Lousvillle, while Tre Richardson added 117 yards and a score on eight catches.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Ashton Daniels had five rushing touchdowns, setting a record for a Florida State quarterback, and the Seminoles had 10 sacks in a 38-7 rout of Virginia. Daniels ran 17 times for 136 yards and completed 12 of 19 passes for 183 yards with an interception as Florida State picked up its first win over a Power 4 team in 2026. The Seminoles (3-2, 1-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) held Virginia to 28 yards on 37 carries. Virginia came into the game averaging 192.8 rushing yards.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh sophomore quarterback Mason Heintschel is out for the season after tearing the ACL in his right knee against Virginia Tech. Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi announced the news about 24 hours after Heintschel was injured during the second half of the 35-33 victory. The win boosted Pitt's record to 5-0. Heintschel had been performing well, with 14 touchdowns and just one interception during the Panthers' perfect start. Holden Gernier, a transfer from Auburn, replaced Heintschel and threw for a touchdown to help secure the win against the Hokies. Gernier is expected to start against North Carolina on October 10.
BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Virginia Tech’s John Love missed a 36-yard field goal as time expired, and Pittsburgh survived for a 35-33 victory over the Hokies. Pittsburgh quarterback Holden Geriner came off the bench to throw a touchdown pass, and Ja’Kyrian Turner added a rushing touchdown for the Panthers, who remain one of three unbeaten teams in the ACC. Ethan Grunkemeyer threw for a career-high 434 yards for the Hokies, but turned the ball over three times.
