DEWEY BEACH — Dewey Beach Police responded to reports of an unconscious driver stopped at a red light at the corner of Coastal Highway and Collin Street Sunday evening, and arrested Nicholas Pusey of Hebron, Maryland, charging him with multiple felonies and misdemeanors.

Around 6:45 p.m. Sunday, reports came in to the Sussex County Communications Center of a Nissan Altima with an apparent unconscious driver. Police said they found Mr. Pusey behind the wheel with his foot on the brake with the car in gear.
When officers attempted to wake the driver, they said they observed signs of intoxication.

Police reported when they instructed Mr. Pusey to open the door, he instead took his foot off the brake causing the vehicle to move.

According to the report, the vehicle moved between 10-15 feet, dragging one of the responding officers behind it. No officers were injured during the interaction, the report said.

When the car began moving, the police issued commands to Mr. Pusey, who did not immediately respond. Police said the suspect resisted arrest, but was eventually subdued and transported to the Dewey Beach Police Department.

During a search of the vehicle, officers found two guns, a bolt-action Mosin-Nagant rifle and a Walther PPQ 22 caliber pistol; an alleged concealed fixed-blade knife; a cooler containing an unrevealed amount of alcohol; and at least two THC vape pens.

Police charged Mr. Pusey with first-degree felony reckless endangerment, two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, felony carrying a concealed deadly weapon and misdemeanor resisting arrest and driving under the influence of liquor or drugs.

Authorities drew Mr. Pusey’s blood in accordance with a search warrant, but did not reveal the results.

According to police, Mr. Pusey is currently being held at the Delaware State Department of Corrections, Sussex Correctional Institution in Georgetown in lieu of almost $42,000 in bail.

No court date has been set for Mr. Pusey.
