Gift of Life presents Bayhealth with Silver Recognition

Posted

DOVER — Bayhealth has been honored with a Silver Recognition from the Health Resources & Services Administration for its dedication to promoting organ and tissue donation and transplantation.

The recognition was presented by the Gift of Life Donor Program, a nonprofit committed to saving lives through organ and tissue contribution.

The administration’s award program honors hospitals for advocating for donation, supporting donor families and providing care to patients awaiting transplants.

Bayhealth leaders have been instrumental in championing this cause, participating in routine meetings, organizing education sessions for employees and implementing initiatives like the Honor Walk, the first of its kind in the region.

Bayhealth’s commitment to fostering a culture of donation has resulted in significant outcomes over the past year. Its Kent and Sussex campuses combined to support 17 organ donors and their families, leading to 50 lifesaving transplants in 2023.

“It’s an honor to be recognized for our commitment to promoting organ and tissue donation and transplant through Gift of Life,” said senior nurse manager Sarah Adams.

“Advocating for organ and tissue donation, while supporting our donor patients and their families, is an incredible opportunity for us to positively impact the well-being of our community. It is a rewarding outcome to tragic situations, and we’re proud to be a part of that.”
