Event to honor Delaware schools’ behavioral health staff

The Delaware Department of Education will name the Delaware Behavioral Health Professional of the Year at a celebration June 8.

The winner will be chosen from among the local winners, named by the state’s 19 school districts and the Delaware Charter School Network.

This program is administered by the department to recognize outstanding service by school employees who are health care practitioners or human service providers and offer services to improve mental health.

Employees considered for the award include counselors, social workers, licensed clinical social workers, psychologists and nurses.

Each local honoree received a $2,000 award from their district or charter school.

The state winner will garner an additional $3,000 award from the department, as well as $5,000 to be used for the educational benefit of his or her students.

The district/charter winners are:

  • Appoquinimink — Carlton Adams, social worker for multiple sites.
  • Brandywine — Heather Richards, psychologist at Harlan Elementary.
  • Caesar Rodney — Emily White, mental health counselor at Fred Fifer III Middle.
  • Cape Henlopen — Tara Gambale, psychologist at Sussex Consortium.
  • Capital — Jennifer Marciarello Benson, behavior interventionist at William Henry Middle.
  • Christina — Trudy Small, nurse at Downes Elementary.
  • Colonial — Courtney Waters, family support therapist at New Castle Elementary.
  • Delaware Charter School Network — Cynthia Hovan, nurse at Academy of Dover.
  • Delmar — Nicole LaPearl, psychologist/special services coordinator at Delmar Middle and High.
  • Indian River — Jessi Ford, counselor at Showell Elementary.
  • Lake Forest — Dana Carey, counselor at Lake Forest North Elementary.
  • Laurel — Sharon Dolby, counselor at Laurel Elementary.
  • Milford — Ally Zanks, counselor at Lulu M. Ross Elementary.
  • New Castle County Vo-Tech — Mark W. Wells, social-emotional learning coach/counselor for the district.
  • Polytech — Ivy Truitt, counselor at Polytech High.
  • Red Clay Consolidated — Lauren Lee, psychologist for multiple sites.
  • Seaford — Evan Wagner, counselor at Blades Elementary.
  • Smyrna — Jessica Krambeck, psychologist for the Early Childhood Program.
  • Sussex Technical — Catherine Schilling, mental health counselor at Sussex Technical High.
  • Woodbridge — Trisha Stiles, counselor at Woodbridge High.
