Bayhealth Pharmacy Residency earns accreditation

Posted

DOVER — Bayhealth’s Pharmacy Residency Program recently earned an eight-year accreditation by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.

Its two Postgraduate Year One programs provide advanced, hands-on training to build on the Doctor of Pharmacy degree.

One is geared to the inpatient hospital setting, and the other focuses on various ambulatory care components. Both are designed to prepare pharmacists for board certification and practice as highly skilled practitioners.

First launched and accredited in 2003, these residency programs have been training the next generation of pharmacists for the workforce. The pharmacy residents work in various settings and as part of an integrated team to ensure patients have access to and are well informed about medications.

“This accreditation is a testament to our team’s commitment to best meeting the needs of our local population and, in particular, the dynamic leadership of Bayhealth Pharmacy Residency Program coordinator Celeste Williams, ... who leads and is the residency program director for the hospital-based program, and our first residency program director for the ambulatory pharmacy-based PGY-1 program, Cameron Golden,” said Bayhealth senior director of pharmacy services Cheri R. Briggs.

“The excellent work they are doing in elevating our pharmacy residencies is successfully providing long-term pharmaceutical care within our integrated health care system here at Bayhealth and beyond to the people who need it.”
