NEW YORK (AP) — Ex-Cleveland Guardians pitchers Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz go to trial Monday on charges that they colluded with gamblers who made hundreds of thousands of dollars betting correctly on individual pitches. Their careers and possibly their freedom are at stake in the jury trial expected to unfold over the next month in Brooklyn federal court. Several professional baseball players, including catchers and baseball executives, are among witnesses likely to testify. Clase is the Guardians’ former closer while Ortiz was a starter when they were charged in November 2025. Both have pleaded not guilty to conspiracy charges and are on nondisciplinary leave from the club without pay.

He was evaluated by medical personnel before being strapped to a board and carefully lifted onto a court to a round of applause.

Lawyers say Packers' Josh Jacobs has 'tangible evidence' disputing allegations from other women

Lawyers for Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs say he has a “substantial body of tangible evidence” disputing the allegations three women made against him while police were investigating his battery case. Jacobs pleaded no contest on Sept. 10 to misdemeanor charges of battery and criminal damage to property stemming from a May altercation with his then-girlfriend. Police on Friday released records from their investigation that included the accounts of three other women who shared similar allegations from years before. Jacobs' lawyers said the allegations are "old, are hearsay, and easily disproven.”

How Kimi Antonelli went from a kid hiding in a stack of tires to F1's youngest champion

Ever since he got into the Formula 1 paddock hidden in a stack of tires, Kimi Antonelli has done things his own way. Now, the 20-year-old Italian stands on his own as F1’s youngest-ever champion. He finished third in the Mexico City Grand Prix on Sunday, more than enough to win the title. Antonelli’s F1 adventure all started with his dad, sportscar racer Marco. His team was involved in a support race at the 2014 German Grand Prix and his 7-year-old son wanted to get a peek behind the scenes of F1 but didn’t have access. “I don’t even know how I fit inside the tire, but it was really tight,” Antonelli said as he prepared to make his F1 debut last year.
