CAMBRIDGE – The Vikings need to buy a new net, but that’s ok.

Cambridge-South Dorchester High School boys’ basketball Head Coach Shawn Tucker snipped the last cord and waved the net in the traditional victory celebration as his players cheered, after beating CMIT North on Saturday.

“With a 74-58 win, we avenge a 2-point loss last year to [Chesapeake Math and IT Charter] CMIT North and are Quarter Final Champions. On to State Final 4,” Coach Tucker posted online.

C-SD will enter the semi-finals with a 24-2 overall record. CMIT North finished the season at 12-10.

Viking LaShaun Moody showed the visitors a dominating performance, as he put 32 points on the board. Koby Ennals was another top scorer, adding 20 to the tally.

C-SD (No. 1) will play Fort Hill (No. 4) at 5 p.m. on Tuesday at neutral site Montgomery Blair High School, after Fort Hill (20-4) beat Lake Clifton (19-6), 51-40 on Saturday.

That game represented something of a milestone for the Sentinels. The team posted a comment, saying, “Fort Hill is the only Western Maryland team to ever defeat a Baltimore City school in a state tournament.”

Lady Vikings

The girls’ basketball team ended their season at Southern Garrett High School on Saturday, falling to the Rams 66-33.

“Not the outcome we wished for, but regardless, I am still proud of this group of young ladies and the coaching staff. South Garrett was hospitable and really showed our girls how much the town supports female athletics. Nothing to hang our heads about, we just have to get in the gym in the offseason,” Head Coach Shamya Stover posted.

“First half we did not play our game at all,” she continued. “After halftime, we made some changes and showed that we could hang with them. Points in the second half were even.”

The Vikes’ offense was led by Tejanae with 13 points, and Le’Asia Todd, with 12.

What wasn’t even was the travel time – it took five and a half hours for the Dorchester women to reach Oakland, in Maryland’s western-most county. The trip, made possible by a $1,000 donation from the Cambridge Police Department, didn’t end until the team returned home at 4:20 a.m. on Sunday.

“We are still proud of your hard work, dedication, determination, willpower, strength, grit, grind, and most importantly togetherness on and off the court,” Vicente Travers posted. “Never put your head down, keep your chin up, lace up tight, and get ready to take on any obstacles that might get in your way in life. Oh, what a wonderful time to be a C-SD Viking!”
