DOVER — The sunny skies that greeted Delawareans on Wednesday will be a thing of the past Thursday, as increasing clouds will bring a wintry mix of snow, freezing rain and sleet to the state, which is under a hazardous-weather outlook.
Meteorologists for the National Weather Service are calling for a 100% chance of precipitation, with snow, freezing rain and sleet Thursday before 3 p.m., before it turns to all sleet and then rain after 4.
For Kent County, new snow and sleet accumulation of 2-4 inches is possible, as the high temp is expected to be 33 degrees. Sussex County may get an inch of snow with a high of 36 anticipated.
The rain or freezing rain will continue overnight into Friday, becoming all rain after 3 a.m. with a low around 31.
The wintry mix is expected to continue Friday, with rain, snow and sleet falling before 3 p.m. and a high temperature near 37. While the chance of precipitation is 80% that day, little snow and/or sleet accumulation is expected.
The sunny skies are anticipated to return for the weekend, though it will still be cold, with a high of 36 degrees.
