DOVER — A 22-year-old Camden man was charged with weapon and drug offenses following a Monday traffic stop on Sorghum Mill Road, according to authorities.

Samuel T. Schuman was initially stopped for driving through a red light at approximately 5:02 p.m., Delaware State Police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Heather Pepper said. A trooper detected a strong odor of marijuana upon contacting Mr. Schuman, who was the lone occupant in the vehicle. Police said Mr. Schuman was removed from the vehicle without incident.

Police said a vehicle search located, among other items, a Sig Sauer P365 semi-automatic handgun, one 9 mm round, approximately 2.2 pounds of marijuana and $100,370 in suspected drug proceeds.

Mr. Schuman was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited, possession of a controlled substance in a Tier 1 quantity, possession of a controlled substance (two counts), driving under the influence of drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to stop at a red light. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 2, Rehoboth Beach, and issued an $86,200 cash bond.
