DOVER — Kent County-owned Tidbury Pond will not be stocked with trout this spring by the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control’s Division of Fish & Wildlife due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Kent County Administrator Michael Petit de Mange said that the coronavirus remains a significant threat in central Delaware, and, in the interest of public health and well-being, Tidbury Pond will not be stocked.
“Under normal conditions, opening day of trout season is a great event that is very well-attended and draws large numbers of people to the banks of Tidbury Pond,” Mr. Petit de Mange said. “The county has been informed by state officials that, as the owner of Tidbury Pond, the county would be solely responsible for the enforcement of COVID restrictions.
“Unfortunately, we are not in a position to effectively execute that mission. With that said, we regret to have to forego participating this year.”
