Speak Up: Response to student loan forgiveness QOTD

Posted

“The federal government has again paused student loan payments to provide relief to borrowers who continue to face financial hardships as a result of the pandemic. Many would like to see student loan forgiveness due to economic pressures faced by borrowers. What is the solution to this situation?”

  • First, let me say that I do not live in a “dream” world, where life is always fair. With that said, I know there is financial hardships for a lot of people. I believe in giving a hand up to people that need one but not a handout. Everyone that has looked into going to college looked at the cost and should plan accordingly. Everyone that is currently going to college knows there is financial debt. I do not believe it is fair to excuse student loans totally. I know that COVID has caused a lot of people financial hardship. With that in mind, give those folks a hand up and help them by adjusting how much is paid to the school at one time. Some sort of “payment plan” would work, instead of a lot of money all at once. I worked full time, had a second job and worked overtime when I could, so that I could pay as I went to school. I know a lot of folks may not be able to do that. Or the student is going full time right out of high school, and the cost adds up quickly. Life isn’t always fair. — Guy Fowler
