You need only to drive on the local roads to see how profoundly unchecked growth has affected Sussex County.
Over the past 25 years, our population skyrocketed by more than 75%—gaining over 120,000 new residents and expanding to 280,000 from 160,000. Thousands of new homes have transformed our landscape, our roads, emergency services, schools and wetlands.
Today, we stand at a critical turning point. The Sussex County Council is preparing the state-mandated Comprehensive Plan. It’s our land-use roadmap for the next 10 years.
If we do not elect new leaders committed to common-sense growth management, we won’t get another chance for a decade. Ten minutes in the voting booth will determine our path for the next 10 years.
Infrastructure is Not a Partisan Issue
Gridlocked traffic, delayed emergency response times, and overburdened infrastructure do not care about red or blue political teams. These are non-partisan, quality-of-life issues that affect every single resident in Sussex County.
That’s why we at Save Our Sussex Political Action Committee favor candidates based on values, not political stripes. If you believe as we do, then join us. The Best for Last on the Ballot
Two county council seats (District 4 and District 5) will be on the November 3 ballot. When you vote either in person or by absentee, please know that the county council races are dead last on a long list of contests.
Many voters stop filling out their card before reaching the bottom. Please, don’t skip the council race! Leaving those choices blank is a vote for the status quo.
Take Action Today
Candidates like Jill Hicks in District 5 (ElectJillHicks.com) and Justine Cuccia in District 4 (Justine4Sussex.com) are advocating for proactive infrastructure planning and sensible growth. They are committed to common-sense change.
If those candidates appeal to you, don’t sit on the sidelines. Study their platforms and get involved. Volunteer. Donate. Talk to your neighbors.
To protect our quality of life, remember to:
If we want to preserve Sussex County, the time to act is now.
