National Weather Service warns of excessive heat through Saturday

Posted

DOVER — Effective until 8 p.m. Saturday, the National Weather Service has declared a heat advisory for the whole of Delaware.

The heat index is expected to reach and sustain more than 100 degrees, especially in urban areas, forecasters said.

Warm and humid conditions are expected to persist overnight, offering little relief.

The weather service added that individuals should drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned spaces if possible and out of the sun, and check in on relatives and neighbors.

“Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke,” the advisory continues.
