DOVER — The Delaware contingent of the National FFA Organization held its annual convention Tuesday and Wednesday at Delaware State University, drawing dozens of young agriculture enthusiasts.

It was the first time holding the gathering at the university’s campus since 2020, as it was hosted at the Delaware State Fairgrounds in Harrington the last three years to fulfill social-distancing requirements.

The two days were filled with a variety of events. Members of different chapters competed in career development activities, including prepared public speaking, farm business management, extemporaneous speaking and employment skills.

Attendees also participated in a day of service.

Additionally, the 2023-24 state officers each gave retiring addresses, as a new team was chosen at the end of the convention. Outgoing president Noah Dixon, vice president Hannah Haigh and secretary Anya Phillips each completed two years in office.

Reporter Keeley McCormick finished one year of service and also gave her retirement speech.

The 2024-25 state officer group will be led by Kyle Gares as president. Last year, he was treasurer.

Joey Nowotny was also on the state team for 2023-24 and will continue in his role as sentinel.

Other positions were filled by seniors from various high schools. Kailyn Pippin from Lake Forest will be vice president, Jetta Hastings from Cape Henlopen was named secretary, Edwina Chen from Appoquinimink will be the treasurer, and Katie Argo from Lake Forest will serve as secretary.
