WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — The Athletics have hired Taylor Smith as president of baseball operations, two months after saying former general manager David Forst would not return next season.
The franchise made the move on Monday, hoping it helps the team in its final year in West Sacramento, California, and for the 2028 season in Las Vegas.
Taylor spent the previous two years with the Boston Red Sox as assistant general manager and worked for the Tampa Bay Rays for seven seasons.
The Athletics were 64-98 this year with a young team in their second season playing at a Triple-A ballpark in West Sacramento, with assistant general manager Dan Feinstein serving as interim GM. Forst had been GM since 2015 and with the organization since 2000.
