CAMBRIDGE —The Wings & Wheels festival is returning to the Cambridge-Dorchester Regional Airport on June 3. The event will showcase planes, cars and motorcycles for a one-day show right off the airport runway. General admission is $5, registration for participating in the car and motorcycle show is $15. All registration fees benefit the American Legion Post 91 in Cambridge.

This year, Wings & Wheels includes a motorcycle and car show to benefit American Legion Post 91. There will be an airplane show by B&B Sport Aviation, a RANS aircrafts dealer. Stunt pilot Bill Finagin will not be able to do a show this year, due to local airspace restrictions, but Bill may be flying in to show off his stunt plane and sign autographs.

The first fly-in sponsored by B&B Sports Aviation was held in 2006. The event was known as the B&B Mid-Atlantic Fly In until 2008 when the name changed to Wings & Wheels.

“Flying in” is what it’s all about at Wings & Wheels. As in events past, a large number of attendees will be arriving in their planes, making the event a perfect opportunity to browse a unique sampling of private planes. B & B Aviation, which will be the headquarters of the event at the airport, deals in Light Sport aircraft, and the event attracts its share of experimental and home-built airplanes.

At Wings & Wheels this weekend, 9 a.m. begins the registration for cars, motorcycles, airplanes and tractors. 10 a.m. the doors open for general admission. At 11 a.m. there will be a K-9 demonstration by Dorchester County Sheriffs Department. There will also be a motorcycle rodeo at 1 p.m.

Two official events will be on the schedule for the day. At noon, there will be an opening ceremony for the event with a formation flight by a group of civilian pilots. At 2 p.m., there will be a dedication ceremony for military veterans, with a “missing man” formation flight flyover. 3 p.m. will be the presentation of trophies for the car and bike show winners.

There will be helicopter rides and plane rides available for those who want to take wing, and there will be plenty for kids to do at the event. Wings & Wheels plans to have a petting zoo, a Kids Corner, and the Fish Mobile from the Phillips Wharf Environmental Center. The Talley Ober Train Display, and Mater from the movie Cars will also be on hand. The event will also be hosting a silent auction.

The band Blackwater will be on hand again to provide musical entertainment. Food will be provided for the event by Kay’s at the Airport, and Two Chicks Catering. This event is sponsored by B&B Sport Aviation.

B&B Sport Aviation is well known for its flight school, fixed wing airplanes, sports ultralights, and sales, inspections and repairs. Ted Bryant of B&B has piloted aircraft for the past 35 years and has instructed students in all age ranges in fixed wing planes and Ultralights. For sport pilot licenses, B&B offers a ground school, flight time, and airplane rentals.

Wings & Wheels is a one day event, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on June 3. The Cambridge-Dorchester Regional Airport is on Bucktown Road, a mile west of US Rt. 50.
