CAMBRIDGE — Viking wrestlers finished the regular season Friday and Saturday, hosting the Bayside Conference Championships at Cambridge-South Dorchester High School. Stephen Decatur High School won the day with 283.5 points.

The home team’s grapplers had their share of success, with seven placing highly enough to score for C-SD. North Dorchester Eagles tied for 14th in the 15-team event.

C-SD earned 110 points in all, while ND scored 25. As for other nearby schools, Colonel Richardson was eighth with 109 points, and Easton came in 11th, with 60.

The Vikings are led by coaches Scott Betts, Jay Turner and Jesse Morris.
“Well that’s a wrap,” Mr. Turner wrote in a post online. “Another year of Baysides complete, with C-SD finishing at 7th place. Four wrestlers made the podium - three taking second place and one taking third - with two placing at seventh and one at eighth place. Not a bad way to go into the post season.”

Regional 2A/1A East Championships will take place Saturday at North Caroline High School. Weigh-ins will commence at 8 a.m., with action on the mats getting underway at 9:30 a.m.

The top four place winners in each weight class will qualify to compete for a state title at The Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro on March 1 and 2.
