Viking swimmers score at Regionals

ANNAPOLIS – Cambridge-South Dorchester High School boys’ and girls’ swim teams made their mark at the Region 3A/2A/1A East Championships on Saturday. The Viking swimmers not only scored among very tough competition, they also set personal records.

In Maryland high school championships meets, the state is divided into two groups – 1A and 2A are combined with the lower half of 3A, while the upper half of 3A is placed with the state’s largest schools, the 4As.

Andrea Dayton was there to see her son Jonathan compete.

“What an amazing afternoon at Swim Regionals watching the C-SD Swim Team break records and reach new personal records, all while encouraging each other and celebrating each other’s accomplishments,” she said on social media. “Thanks to our fabulous coaching staff, Coach Pietras and Coach Coleman. They always bring out the best in our team.”

Among the leading results of the meet was the fourth-place finish in the men’s 200-yard medley relay, with Jonathan Kelly, Matthew Ellis, John Henry and Justin Turner in the pool for C-SD.

C-SD girls Haley Pietras, Maddison Lednum, Micah Slacum and Leah Krotee were fifth in the women’s 200-yard medley relay.

Micah Slacum was second in the 50-yard freestyle, just a half second behind Hailey Ritter of Queen Anne’s.

Jonathan Kelly set a school record in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing fifth in 55.84, and was second in the region in 100-yard backstroke.

Diving competitions will take place on Thursday, at which time team scores will be compiled. C-SD has no divers.
