CAMBRIDGE — The Secrets of the Eastern Shore Pop Up Shop is coming back to downtown Cambridge for the holiday season.

Designed as a celebration of the Delmarva region in photos, words, artworks, and greeting cards, the store is the creation of a local husband-and-wife team, the writer Jim Duffy and the photographer Jill Jasuta.

Opening day is Nov. 18. The shop is located at 412 Race St.

The store will feature dramatic images of Cambridge and Dorchester County by Ms. Jasuta, an award-winning photographer whose work has been featured in a number of regional galleries. In addition to traditional prints, Ms. Jasuta’s images will be showcased on ceramic tiles and wood blocks as well as in canvas and metal formats.

Secrets of the Eastern Shore has also expanded its line of holiday cards featuring iconic Eastern Shore images and whimsical photo illustrations geared toward the coming Christmas season.

Mr. Duffy is the author of two guidebooks, Eastern Shore Road Trips: 27 One-Day Adventures on Delmarva and Tubman Travels: 32 Underground Railroad Journeys on Delmarva. Both books offer a mix of insider travel tips and historical storytelling that are designed help people explore and appreciate the Eastern Shore and Southern Delaware.

Mr. Duffy and Ms. Jasuta have also invited a number of guest artists to display works in the Secrets of the Eastern Shore store.

The local Dorchester County artists in that lineup include Kevin Davidson, whose vintage-style trade signs evoke the traditions of days gone by on the Eastern Shore; Joyce Ritz, the artist behind the Souly Joyce line of jewelry; and Christi Messick, whose paintings and wood-cut works often celebrate life in the great outdoors. The store will also carry a new modern-day version of a traditional oyster tin, a product developed by the Hoopers Island Oyster Co. that features original artwork by the muralist Michael Rosato.

Artists from outside Dorchester County will be featured as well, including Jenell Willey, a painter from the Nanticoke River town of Tyaskin whose works also include greeting cards and wine glasses; Rachel Woodard Alvarez, a painter and greeting-card artist from Salisbury; Amy Marlett, who paints seasonal and regional themes onto crab shells; Jane Ernst, a greeting-card artist from Easton; John Patterson, the Baltimore-based author of a funny and wise self-help book, Crazy People Make You Crazy; C.L. Marshall, a writer from Pocomoke City whose books tell tales of hunting and outdoors life in the Chesapeake Bay region; and Colbi Custis, an artist from Salisbury who creates vibrant pen-and-ink notecards.

“In one way or another, just about everything in the Pop Up Shop celebrates this incredible place we are so lucky to call home,” Ms. Jasuta says.

The Pop Up project was facilitated by the nonprofit Cambridge Main Street group and its executive director, Katie Clendaniel, as well as by the owners of the 412 Race St. property, Heather and Michael Rosato.

“We’re really excited to be a part of this vibrant business community for the holidays,” Mr. Duffy said. “With all the great events and promotions that Main Street and its merchants have lined up for the holidays, it’s going to be a great season in downtown Cambridge, and we’re hoping that maybe we can add a little something to the great mix that’s already in place.”

The Secrets of the Eastern Shore Pop Up Shop will be open Thursdays through Sundays, 11 am-6 pm. It will probably be open on other days of the week as well, but that depends on how things go with the fact that both Mr. Duffy and Ms. Jasuta both have unpredictable jury-duty assignments in the coming weeks.

To check on those other hours in advance of visiting the store, call Mr. Duffy at 443-477-4490 or email SecretsoftheEasternShore@gmail.com. To keep up with the store’s progress online, visit SecretsoftheEasternShore.com or Facebook.com/SecretsoftheEasternShore.
