Robin Hood Shop plans for expansion

Posted

CAMBRIDGE — The Robin Hood Shop, a member of the downtown Cambridge business community for nearly 60 years, has recently announced plans for an expansion.

Operated by the Dorchester General Hospital Auxiliary for the benefit of programs, equipment, services and patient care at University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Dorchester, the Shop is located at 416 High St. in Cambridge. The Auxiliary recently acquired property adjacent to the Shop – at 418 High St. — and had the existing structure demolished to make room for an addition to Robin Hood’s current location.

According to Cathy Gullion, shop manager, construction will begin in spring 2017 on the expansion, which will enable the thrift shop to offer furniture.

“Expanding the Robin Hood Shop has been a dream of the Auxiliary and the Shop’s staff and volunteers for more than a decade,” comments Ms. Gullion. “Recently, everything fell into place to make that dream a reality and we could not be more excited for the changes to come in 2017.”

The Robin Hood Shop offers gently used men, women and children’s clothing, fashion accessories, jewelry, a variety of household items, toys and books. Donations are accepted during Shop hours, which are Monday through Friday from 9 am-4 pm and Saturdays from 10 am-2 pm. The Shop is staffed with a manager and assistant manager who work alongside more than a dozen Auxiliary volunteers.

“Our volunteers are extremely dedicated to the Shop and its role in supporting local health care services provided by Shore Regional Health,” adds Ms. Gullion. “We are always looking for additional volunteers, even if someone can only give a couple of hours of his or her time each week — we appreciate every moment that a volunteer can devote to supporting the Shop and the Auxiliary.”

Community members interested in learning more about volunteer opportunities can contact Ms. Gullion at 410-228-6339.

As part of the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS), University of Maryland Shore Regional Health is the principal provider of comprehensive health care services for more than 170,000 residents of Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s and Talbot counties on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. UM Shore Regional Health’s team of more than 2,500 employees, medical staff, board members and volunteers works with various community partners to fulfill the organization’s mission of Creating Healthier Communities Together.
