Public meeting on Cambridge Marina is March 22

CAMBRIDGE - The city of Cambridge is inviting the public to join a meeting to discuss issues regarding the city’s marina and the shoreline resilience plans at 4 p.m. March 22. The meeting will be held in City Council Chambers at 305 Gay St.

The meeting is open to the public and anyone who wishes to offer input, suggestions, concerns or ideas is welcome to attend.

There are several near-term matters Cambridge will have to address in the coming months and years which will frame the stakeholders’ meeting discussion. These topics include:

  • Sea level rise and its impact on our shoreline and waterfront assets such as the marina.
  • The need to address underwater wave action impacting the city’s waterfront and marina assets, including the Cambridge Yacht Club.
  • Plans to replace piers E, F and G in the city’s marina within the next three to five years. This topic will include practical issues about phasing the work but also financial information about how to pay for these expensive investments.
  • The city of Cambridge’s management contract with the Oasis Marinas which expires at the end of 2023. Oasis Marinas has expressed an interest in renewing the contract with Cambridge in addition to proposing a longer-term management contract that would empower Oasis to make more substantial investments in Cambridge.

It is expected that participants will help identify other topics of discussion and some specific future meetings will be set to work on all the issues identified and prioritized, a statement from the city said.
