Open letter from State Sen. Addie Eckardt

Posted

During this holiday season, I am truly thankful for my family, friends, and being able to serve as your state senator for District 37. Although I will be vacating my seat at the end of 2022, I have served this district with pride, and to the best of my ability. I have a deep appreciation for your support during my 28 years in public office.

I am leaving with the state of Maryland in excellent fiscal condition, with a substantial budget surplus, and with core priorities fully funded. We have focused on economic growth, public safety, community revitalization, education, environmental stewardship, and very importantly, transformative investments in health care solutions in our district, and you will see that in our proposals for FY24.

As a community, we continued to identify the needs of our people, and came together to protect our most vulnerable populations. I would like to thank all of our first responders, police officers, fire companies, educators, health care workers and essential employees for your dedication to service.

As I close this part of my career, I will be refocusing on my lifetime efforts in behavioral health. I have accepted the director of nursing position at the Eastern Shore Hospital, so I am very pleased to continue my public service. I am committed to growing our psychiatric nursing workforce to care for those who struggle with severe mental illness and addiction. However, I will always be an advocate for our district and our communities.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to my office if we can provide any assistance to you. Please email Adelaide.Eckardt@senate.state.md.us for any assistance or questions.

Happy holidays! Best wishes to you and your family.

Sen. Addie Eckardt
