EAST NEW MARKET – Adam Freeman celebrated his achieving the rank of eagle scout during a ceremony at the East New Market Fire Hall on Feb. 11. With him were the members of Boy Scout Troop 754, family and friends, as well as local and state government officials.

The day marked the high point of many years of effort for Adam.

“At 5 years old, I joined Cub Scout Pack 169 in Secretary. Over the next five years, I progressed through the ranks of Cub Scouts. I started as a Tiger cub, finally becoming a Webelos 2, where I earned the Arrow of Light, the highest award you can earn as a Cub Scout,” he said in a letter inviting guests to the Court of Honor at which he would be named an eagle scout. “At 10 years old, I joined Boy Scout Troop 754 in East New Market. Over the next 5 years, I progressed through the ranks starting with Tenderfoot and finally at the age of 15 years 4 months and 11 days, became an Eagle Scout. the youngest ever in my troop.”

A prospective eagle scout must complete a public-service project to become eligible for the rank. Adam’s project was to renovate the Little League Baseball field in East New Market where he played many games in Tri City Little League.

Adam currently plays travel baseball for the Delmarva Aces in Berlin. He is a sophomore at North Dorchester High School, where he is an honor roll student and plays varsity baseball.
