CAMBRIDGE – The Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Byway has been named to Forbes.com’s state-by-state list of women’s history landmarks.

The online magazine created the list in honor of Women’s History Month in March. “We compiled the best locations across the country that highlight the contributions of women,” the article said.

With every state in the Union having one site on the list, the Tubman Byway was selected to represent Maryland. A statement from administrators of the byway said, “The byway is a scenic, self-guided driving tour of various sites related to the life of Harriet Tubman and other freedom seekers along the Underground Railroad on Maryland’s Eastern Shore and beyond.”

Harriet Tubman was born near Bucktown in Dorchester County. She is known for, among other achievements, leading many enslaved persons to freedom.

A statement on the City of Cambridge’s social media site supported the move, saying, “Very cool recognition of our community in Forbes.”
