SHILOH — North Dorchester High School Athletic Director Dave Morrissette has named the Eagles’ February athletes of the month. The awards are given to recognize not only the students’ success in sports, but also in the classroom.

Metal Arc of Cambridge sponsored a gift for the varsity winners. Regal Cinemas donated tickets to the junior varsity/underclassmen winners.
Boys’ varsity

Basketball - Coach Rob Smith nominate Gary Pledger, saying he plays the game with a lot of passion, and is one of the team’s most versatile players.
“He is one of our leading rebounders and big man defensive players,” a statement from Coach Smith said. “He also was a key part in helping us defeat Cambridge-South Dorchester, which at the time was the top team in the Bayside Conference. He finished that game with 24 huge points.”

Girls’ varsity
Basketball - Senior Lexie Mills got the nod from Coach Tiffany Cephas-Thomas, who said the team captain is a hard worker and shows strong determination.
“She hustles at every practice and every game. Lexie is always in game mode and ready to play,” Coach Cephas-Thomas said. “The ladies look up to her and feed off her energy. She knows how to pick up the team’s spirits when they are down. She is an amazing young lady. We are all going to miss her dearly.”

Girls’ JV
Basketball - Breisha Cephas has made quite a name for herself this season, while still a sophomore. Not only is she head captain, but she has also already scored more than 1,000 points in her time on the court.
From high school to AAU teams, she plays all year. The practice and experience have resulted in success playing, and numerous mentions in regional media.
“She has shown great leadership and devotion to her team,” a statement from the school said. “We are all very proud of her and her accomplishments.”

Boys’ JV
Cheerleading - “Jaime Fonseca-Gonzalez has been an awesome addition to the team this year,” Cheerleading Coach Amber Aaron said. “He has made stunts work a lot easier and he works very hard at everything he does. I am so proud of Jaime for sticking with cheer this year. He has been made fun of by a lot of students this year for being a male cheerleader and that did not stop him. He is only a freshman and he is involved with chorus, senior class play, unified fitness, cheer and has good grades. Our team would not be the same without him.”
