Special to The Dorchester Banner/Dave Ryan Vikings Head Coach Jake Coleman addressed his players after their 26-0 defeat Friday by Frederick Douglass High School.

CAMBRIDGE — Cambridge-South Dorchester High School’s 2014 football season came to an end Friday, as the Vikings fell to Frederick Douglass High School, 26-0. Last year, C-SD was also defeated by Douglass in the state semi finals, 54-13.

The Vikings can still call their 2014 campaign a success, having once again earned the Region 1A East title with their victory Nov. 22 over Kent County.

Gathering his players at the end of the game, Coach Jake Coleman left them with positive remarks, saying, “I’m just very proud of you all for the effort, I definitely saw a lot of effort.”

The Douglass Mighty Ducks came to town scoring an average of 43 points a game, and known for their explosive scoring ability. They maintained that reputation in the second quarter, with three touchdowns to make the score 20-0 at the half.

Both teams relied on their running games, as players fought to stay warm and loose in the evening’s sub-freezing temperatures.

The game’s final score occurred in the fourth quarter. The Vikings were left with a play to be proud of, when the Ducks tried to throw for a two-point conversion and Terry Wilson intercepted the pass.

During his post-game speech to the team, Coach Coleman encouraged his seniors to seek new goals now that their C-SD football careers are over.

“Some of you will go on to do other things,” he said. “Don’t let this be the greatest thing you ever do.”

For the rest of the team, there’s still next season and another run at the championship to think about.

“Underclassmen, your off-season starts now,” Coach Coleman said.
