Coaches, swimmers and scorekeepers Erica Doty and Maddie Watkins were all smiles Monday, at the conclusion of Cambridge-South Dorchester High School’s regular season.[/caption] CAMBRIDGE — Ok, there’s good news and there’s bad news. The bad news is that the Cambridge-South Dorchester High School swim team’s boys barely missed repeating undefeated this year, falling to Easton in the last race of Monday’s season-ending meet. Viking girls also lost, posting a 4-6 mark for the season. The boys finished 9-1. The good news is that the students were all smiles afterward, as they congratulated the 13 seniors who had just finished their high school swimming careers. “This is the first year that all seniors swam all four years,” Coach Melanie Coleman said as she and co-Coach Heidi Stout presented the senior girls with bouquets. Cambridge-South Dorchester High School swim team seniors celebrated the end of their final regular season after Monday’s meet against Easton. In back from the left are Jacob Weber, Alex Hernandez, Thomas Anderson, Sean Grier, Trevor North, Tyler Wright, Jacob Tieder, Ray Brohawn and Ahmad Dajani.[/caption] The afternoon also featured the retirement of two successful, long-running family traditions, as Sean Grier and Thomas Anderson both completed their fourth seasons. Coaches Stout and Coleman noted that the young men had many siblings who had also swam for C-SD, and the pair had represented their families well. “You guys have lived up to your legacy,” she said. After the ceremony, as the athletes packed their gear, Coach Coleman turned back to the results of the meet. “It was a heartbreaker that it ended the undefeated season for the boys,” she said. “Easton had some kids who came out of nowhere. We didn’t know they had so much depth.” Still, C-SD had some outstanding performances. “Madde Narr had a great race,” Coach Coleman said. “For our boys, Thomas Anderson swam really well.” What now? Onwards and upwards. “We’re not done, we have regionals,” Coach Coleman said. “We’re taking nine boys and six girls. From there, they qualify for states.” C-SD will face Northeast Anne Arundel, Southern Anne Arundel, Kent County, Kent Island, Queen Anne’s, Easton, Stephen Decatur, Digital Harbor, Dunbar, Patterson and Forest Park. The Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association Regional Swim and Dive Championship for Class 3A-2A-1A East will take place Saturday, at the Arundel Olympic Swim Center at 2960 Riva Road in Annapolis.
