CAMBRIDGE – Happy 2024 from your Dorchester County Public Library! Start your New Year off right by becoming a member of our library for free, supporting us by becoming a volunteer with the Friends of the Library, or discovering a new interest by checking out a library program or display.

Here are some upcoming events at both branches to help kick off 2024 on the right foot.

Happenings at both Cambridge & Hurlock Libraries:

  • Craft To-Go: Origami Fox Face Bookmark - Learn how to create and decorate your very own corner page bookmark in the shape of a fox face with our craft to-go kit. Every reader should be prepared with their very own bookmark. Available for pick-up all month long for all ages while supplies last.
  • Children'sStorytime - Catch the storytime fun with your kiddos every Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m. at either our Cambridge or Hurlock branch. (For ages 0 to 6)
  • Stitch & Knit - Calling all crafters: Bring your knitting needles or crochet hooks and come craft with us. Don't have a project? Small weaving looms, crochet hooks and knitting needles will be available for you to try. Light refreshments will be available.

Cambridge: Jan. 18, 3-4:30 p.m. (Hurlock’s event was Jan. 4.)

Happenings at the Cambridge Library

  • TeenAnime Club - Every Wednesday at 4 p.m. Cambridge Meeting Room - Meet up with fellow anime lovers weekly for games, episodes and more. (For ages 12+)
  • Author visit from Danielle Spencer on Jan. 19 at 3 p.m. in the Cambridge Meeting Room.

Join us for a special visit from the author of the thrilling novel, “Digital Assassins,” inspired by true events. Spencer, privacy rights advocate and protector of freedom, will be reading an excerpt from her new book and available for discussion.

Happenings at the Hurlock Library

  • Make your own mini-snowglobe on Thursday at 5:30-6:30 p.m. Embrace the winter spirit at the Hurlock Public Library and make a mini-snow globe to spread some seasonal joy. This hands-on workshop is perfect for all ages.
  • STEM Night Snow Slime on Jan. 25 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Experience the excitement of STEM at the Hurlock Public Library. Our STEM Night Program has hands-on activities, demos and presentations on science, technology, engineering and math. (For all ages)

While you're at the library, stay a while and enjoy the current puzzle in progress on a table by the Adult Large Print section in Cambridge. Be sure to stop by our Cozy Winter Crafts & Bakes Book Display if you're a maker or a baker - or lean into the Winter Blues at Hurlock with their Books with Blue Covers Display.

Enjoy Hurlock’s in-house Crafting Table where you can cut and paste a little Yeti friend to take home. There’s something for everyone.

Did you know that the Cambridge Library building turned 50 in 2023, making it one of the oldest public library buildings on the Eastern Shore? The Hurlock Library is the oldest library entity on the Eastern Shore, and second in the state (just after Enoch Pratt in Baltimore).
