Bike decorating contest part of Family Fun Day

MD-FFbike contest 2x-051115 There will be a bicycle decorating contest this year at the Pleasant Day Family Fun Day on May 30th.

CAMBRIDGE — The 2nd annual Family Fun Day at Pleasant Day will open on May 30 at 9 a.m. It was a very pleasant event last year with 52 vehicles registered in the Car, Truck and Bike Show, more than 300 people attending. The committee listened to the public; what they liked and what they didn’t like and made changes.

The most frequent request was for something for pre-teens. The Family Fun Day at Pleasant Day Committee came up with an idea for a Decorated Bicycle Contest.  Contestants, aged 8 to 12, can enter decorated bicycles (sizes 20”, 24” or 26”).  Decorations may be balloons, streamers, straws, cards, clothespins, stuffed animals, feathers, whirligigs, flowers, or whatever else that expresses your creative side.  The bicycles could be color themed to your favorite color, patriotic, TV or game theme, or a special interest.

The Cambridge City Police will be doing the judging and there will be trophies awarded by McGruff for First, Second and Third place. All decorated bikes will receive a Bike Badge when they pay the $2 registration fee at the front gate between 9 and 11 a.m., on May 30.

The trophies will be awarded at noon and in addition all bicycle participants will receive a momento of their participation. This is a great way for parents and grandparents to have a fun time with their youngsters.

During 10 a.m. to noon when the Bicycle Decorating Contest is going on, there will also be face painting, fingerprinting, cookie decorating and more for youngsters.

Fingerprinting will be offered by the Cambridge City Police to the first 100 youngsters/families between the ages of 3 and 14 years of age. The family will take the fingerprints home, for their records. More details will be forthcoming as Corporal Patton and the committee work out the details.

The Family Fun Day is a fundraiser and is made possible by sponsors and patrons.  Already there are 3 Gold Sponsors in the order received: Thomas Funeral Home PA, Craig’s Drug Store Inc., and 1880 Bank. Affordable Business Systems is a Silver Sponsor. Dr. Leona Odemena of Cambridge Foot and Ankle Center, LLC, is the first physician who has sent in her donation. Please thank these businesses for helping make this fundraiser a success for the participants of Pleasant Day Medical Adult Day Care.
