DOVER – Apparently Wesley College’s football reputation precedes it.
Playing their first season as a member of the New Jersey Athletic Conference, the Wolverines were named the preseason favorite to win the conference this fall.
Wesley received nine of 10 first-place votes from the NJAC’s coaches. Second-place Rowan was the only other team to get a first-place vote.
Salisbury, which like the Wolverines is joining the NJAC as an associate member this fall, placed third in the preseason poll.
Wesley went 12-2 and reached the NCAA Division III national semifinals last season. The Wolverines return four ECAC Division III South All-Stars including junior running back Jamar Baynard, senior tight end Kyle George, junior offensive lineman Casey Ergenzinger, and senior preseason All-American quarterback Joe Callahan.
Wesley will take on NJAC opponent Frostburg State in their season opener on Sept. 12 in Western Maryland.
