Five different players scored touchdowns as Smyrna High rolled to a 56-0 victory Delcastle in its football season opener on Friday night.

Sophomore William Knight, who also ran for four two-point conversions, and freshman Stephen Whaley ran for two TDs apiece. Whaley also scored a pair of two-point conversions.

The Eagles scored 16 points in each of the first three quarters to put away the Cougars. Junior quarterback Nolan Henderson threw touchdown passes to Donte Ritchie and Brandon Bishop.

Smyrna’s other TD came when Larsen Wilson recovered a blocked punt in the end zone.

Sussex Central 21, Laurel 0: Fulton Holland ran for a pair of touchdowns as the Golden Knights won their fifth game in a row dating back to last season.

Kiante Sturgis also scored for Central, which led 14-0 after the first quarter. The game was postponed on Thursday night because of thunderstorms.

Woodbridge 46, Broadwater, Va. 0: The Raiders opened the season with a shutout victory in the nonconference game.

Linganore, Md. 49, Indian River 6: The Indians dropped their season opener on the road on Friday.

John Carroll, Md. 50, Delmar 14: John Carroll was too much for the Wildcats as they dropped their season opener.

Glasgow 40, Seaford 2: The Dragons scored 22 points in the third quarter to pull away to the season-opening victory.

The Blue Jays got their only points on a fourth-quarter safety.

Field hockey

Polytech 4, Pocomoke, Md. 3: Cam Dennis tallied the final two goals as the Panthers rallied from a 3-0 deficit to win their season opener.

Alison McKay and Jamie Trabaudo also scored for Polytech, which netted all four of its goals in the final 27 minutes. Dennis scored the game-winner with 8:11 remaining.

The Panthers held advantages of 16-7 in shots and 12-8 in corners with goalie Lauren Lee making four saves.

Boys’ soccer

Delmarva Christian 5, Gunston Day School (Md.) 2: CJ Wilkerson scored three goals to lead Delmarva Christian, which erased a 2-1 halftime deficit with four second-half goals. Liam Catron recorded 12 saves in goal.

College field hockey

Delaware 7, Temple 4: Senior Michaela Patzner posted a career-best game Friday evening as the 18th-ranked Blue Hens battled for the win.

Patzner notched her first career hat trick with three goals and added an assist for a career-high seven points for Delaware (5-0). The midfielder became just the seventh player in program history to break the 100 career-point plateau.

Junior Esmée Peet registered two goals and an assist while classmate Kayla Devlin recorded her first career points with one goal and one assist.

Senior captain Allie Mikelson also logged multiple points and finished the night with two assists and a defensive save while freshman Lisa Giezeman tallied her team-leading sixth goal of the year.

Volleyball

Ursuline 3, Delmar 0: The Raiders won the nonconference match by scores of 25-18, 25-10, 25-12, on Friday.

Carly Covington had eight kills, three aces and seven digs for Delmar while Kelsie Hughes had 10 digs and Samantha Lehman added 11 assists.

College volleyball

Wolverines split: Wesley fell in its first match of the day, but rebounded with a grueling 3-2 victory over Bridgewater (Va.) in their second contest, splitting their first day of the CUA Guetle Invitational.
