MacKenzie Scully netted goals two minutes apart late in the first half and Padua went on to a 5-1 victory over Caesar Rodney in a girls’ soccer showdown on Saturday afternoon.

Scully scored in the 32nd and 34th minute to snap a 1-1 tie for the Pandas (7-0). The contest was a rematch of last year’s state championship game, which Padua won 3-1.

The three-time defending state champion Pandas have now won five games in a row over the Riders since 2010.

Janiah Moore scored in the 15th minute to tie Saturday’s game at 1-1 for CR (5-1). Goalie Kristiana Stevens made 10 saves for the Riders, who were outshot 15-6.

Padua also held a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.

Newark 1, Milford 0: Hailey Morgan made 19 saves for the Buccaneers in their nonconference loss.

The Yellowjackets outshot Milford, 20-5.

Baseball

Dover 5, Appoquinimink 2: Winning pitcher Kendall Small had a two-run double to spark the Senators to the nonconference victory.

The Senators (5-1) scored all five of their runs in the fourth inning. Garrett Lawson had an RBI single with Jared Rowley and Tyler Rosello adding RBI on sacrifice flies.

The Jaguars got both their runs on solo homeruns.

Middletown 9, Caesar Rodney 7: The Cavaliers scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to break a 7-7 tie.

Tim Haugh’s grand slam homer sparked a five-run third for the Riders. CR scored twice in the top of the sixth to tie the score.

Archmere 3, Polytech 0: Joey Voge threw a complete-game three-hitter with five strikeouts to blank the Panthers.

Catcher Adrian Hill had two of Polytech’s three hits while Cole Garey pitched a complete game.

Woodbridge 3, Wilm. Christian 0: Douglas Avery pitched five-plus innings to earn the win for the Raiders, who scored all three of their runs in the fourth.

Jacob Rogers drove in the first Woodbridge run.

Salesianum 3, Cape Henlopen 1: The Sals took the lead for good with a pair of runs in the first inning.

Viking reliever Austin Elliot struck out five in two innings.

Softball

Dover 17, William Penn 0: Katie Dunlap threw a five-inning one-hitter and also homered as the Senators earned their first win of the season.

Monica Joseph also homered for Dover, which had 11 hits in the contest.

Newark Charter 2, Sussex Tech 0: The Patriots scored both runs in the bottom of the first and that was enough for Caitlyn Pontak, who pitched a three-hitter.

The Ravens had runners on second and third with no outs in the top of the seventh but didn’t score. Jenna Tate, Lauren Genshaw and Elisha Marks had singles for Sussex Tech.

Arthur L. Johnson, N.J. 7, Delmar 5: Johnson scored twice in the bottom of the fifth to snap a 5-5 tie in a game played at Caravel.

Caravel 10, Indian River 0: Julia Bomhardt, Makenzie Collins and Callie McDowell had hits for the Indians in their nonconference loss.

Laurel 1, Caravel 0: Regan Green pitched a two-hitter to earn the shutout in a game played on Friday night.

The Bulldogs scored the game’s only run in the top of the sixth.

Lacrosse

BOYS, Lake Forest 23, St. Thomas More 9: Austin Aguilar (2 assists) netted eight goals and Carter Kenton had seven to pace the Spartans.

Ryan Sipple (1 assist) and Benjamin Moore added two goals apiece while goalie Christopher Wallace made four saves.

Dover 14, Polytech 7: The Senators improved to 5-3 with the Henlopen Conference North victory at Wesley College.

Sanford 11, Sussex Tech 10: The Warriors overcame a two-goal deficit in the fourth quarter to post the win in overtime.

Jason Whaley (4 goals), Matthew Tull (3 goals, 2 assists), Ian Carlisle (2 goals) and Nathan Hannenfeld (1 goal, 1 assist) led the Ravens, who also got eight saves from goalie Jacob Ryan. Sussex Tech outshot Sanford, 39-27.

GIRLS, Polytech 18, Brandywine 1: Allie McKay tallied seven goals and an assist as the Panthers improved to 7-0.

Maddie McKay (4 goals, 2 assists), Rachel Slater (3 goals), Jamie Trabaudo (2 goals, 2 assists), Katie Richardson (1 goal, 6 assists) and Eleanor Knapp (1 goal) also scored for Polytech. The Panthers outshot the Bulldogs, 25-5, and led 13-0 at halftime.
