Polytech High scored in overtime to edge St. Andrews, 6-5, in boys’ lacrosse on Monday evening.

The Panthers (3-1) sent the contest to OT by outscoring the Cardinals, 3-2, in the fourth quarter.

Griffin Ott had a pair of goals while goalie Nathan Fairbanks made 18 saves for Polytech. St. Andrews outshot the Panthers, 30-21.

Tom Gilmore (1 assist), Jake Davis, Zachary Maheu and Zachary Trabaudo scored the Panthers’ other goals.

Lake Forest 24, McKean 2: Carter Kenton (1 assist) scored seven goals and Austin Aguilar had six to lead the Spartans.

Benjamin Moore (3 goals, 4 assists), Logan Johnson (2 goals, 1 assist), Parker Sard (2 goals, 2 assists), Dawaunta Parker (2 goals) and Kurt Moyer (1 goal) also scored goals for Lake.

Cape Henlopen 11, Stephen Decatur, Md. 4: Jacob Brown tallied five goals and an assist to pace the Vikings to the nonconference win.

Cape, which also got a pair of goals from Erik-Stephane Stancofski, outscored Decatur 8-3 in the second half. Hank Coveleski, Evan Gehman, Ethan Ghabra and Matthew Lally also scored goals.

Goalies Brendan Kane and Brandt Lookup combined for nine saves.

James M. Bennett, Md. 14, Delmar 1: Bennett handed the Wildcats a nonconference loss.

Worcester Prep, Md. 18, Delmarva Christian 1: Worcester scored 11 first-quarter goals to put the game out of reach.

GIRLS, Cape Henlopen 9, Stephen Decatur, Md. 8: Cailey Thornburg had three goals and a pair of assists as the Vikings edged Decatur.

Lizzie Frederick (2 assists) and Chloe Schaeffer had two goals each for Cape, which led 5-3 at halftime.

Eddy Shoop and Lindsay Monigle added Cape’s other goals with goalie Izzy Cryne stopped eight shots.

Parkside, Md. 16, Sussex Tech 11: Parkside outscored the Ravens, 7-2, in the second half to pull away from a 9-9 tie.

Madi Bada (1 assist) netted four goals with Morgan Johnson (1 assist) adding three for Sussex Tech. Breanna Cathell, Kathryn Giles, Mariah Lee and Bridget Johnson (1 assist) all had one goal apiece.

Breonda Wright made 11 saves as the Ravens were outshot 33-11.

Baseball

Middletown 13, Sussex Tech 10: Brandon Rohrer’s three-run homer in the top of the 10th lifted the Cavaliers in a game that was suspended earlier in the season.

Luke Oliphant and Justin Hill both homered for the Ravens with Anthony Hitchcock adding a pair of doubles.

Cape Henlopen 14, Laurel 4: The Vikings scored five runs in the first and six more in the third inning to take control of the Henlopen Conference win.

Drew Mulcahy went 2-for-2 with three runs scored while starting pitcher Will Jarrell threw three scoreless innings with five strikeouts.

Perez Nichols went 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored to pace the Bulldogs.

Girls’ soccer

Dover 8, Seaford 0: Kathryn Ford tallied three of the Senators’ first four goals as they picked up the win.

Rachel Mills (1 assist), Taylor Hutchins (1 assist), Destiny Still, Cassidy Bennetti and Bryanna Dee all scored one goal for Dover.

Seaford’s Helem Quintero made six saves.

Softball

Sussex Tech 15, Lake Forest 8: The Ravens collected 16 hits in earning the Spartans their first loss.

Taylor Collins (3-for-3, 2 RBI), Rylee Shockley (4 RBI) and Elisha Marks (3 RBI) all homered for Sussex Tech while Jakayla Sample had three RBI.

For Lake Forest, Mya Maddox (3 stolen bases) and Katie Stahre (4 RBI) had three hits apiece, Brooke Glanden hit a three-run homer and Faith Garey went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Dover 15, McKean 1: The Senators scored eight runs in the first inning before posting the victory.

Seaford 17, St. Thomas More 4: Winning pitcher Meggan Walton struck out six, walked only one and added a pair of doubles in the Blue Jays’ win.

Sam Johnson and Shi Johnson also had multiple hits for Seaford, which scored six runs in the first and eight in the fifth.

Sarah Reeves, Zoey Romano and Sabine Portalatin had the Ravens’ hits.

College baseball

Delaware State 6, Norfolk State 5: Austin Bentley singled in the winning run with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Hornets.

DelState avoided a sweep in the three-game series to improve to 6-5 in the MEAC (6-25 overall), while the first-place Spartans fell to 7-4 (13-15).

The score was 5-5 when the Hornets came to bat in the last of the ninth. Bentley hit a high chopper over the head of Spartan shortstop Justin Lee to drive in Jaylen Zielecki with the winning run.

The winning hit capped off a big day for Bentley, who was 4-for-5 with two RBI.

The walk-off hit also made a winner of Darnell Maisonet, who threw 3.2 innings of one-hit scoreless relief to record his first collegiate victory (1-3). He was also 2-for-4 with two RBI at the plate.

Wesley 7, Eastern 6: The Wolverines made an early four-run hold up in winning their ninth straight game.

Mike Calvarese had three hits while Joe Hummel ripped a pair of hits with two RBI and Christopher Seibert launched a home run.

Alex Marrs got the start and went six innings, allowing just two earned runs on five hits to earn the victory. Nate Weir and Aaron Briggs each made relief appearances before Andrew Weaver came on to pitch the eighth and ninth innings to earn the six-out save.

Hens’ Glover honored: Thanks to an outstanding week that saw him lead the Delaware baseball team to a perfect 4-0 record, Blue Hen junior leftfielder Jordan Glover has been selected as the Colonial Athletic Association Co-Player of the Week.

Glover batted .450 for the week with three doubles, a triple, three runs scored and five runs batted in. He now has 10 multiple RBI games this season, is batting .342 and leads the team with 36 RBI, 16 doubles, and 10 stolen bases.

College softball

Delaware State 2, Hampton 1: Pinch-hitter Danielle Velez connected for a two-out RBI single in her first at-bat of the season as the Hornets pulled off their first regular-season series sweep of Hampton since 2012.

The Hornets (10-2 MEAC, 17-16) also recorded their sixth consecutive win in addition to moving to 8-1 at home this season.

Managing just one hit off HU starter Allie Hotetz heading into the fifth, DSU’s Khaliyah Flournory reached third on a dropped fly ball. Outfielder Mika Lumsden drove in Flournory with a bloop single to left to knot the game at 1-1.

Winning pitcher Tara Tursellino (10-7) had seven strikeouts.

Wesley earns split: Lindsay Siok (Milford) tossed a complete game to earn the win in Wesley’s 8-7 win over Penn State-Harrisburg.

Penn State-Harrisburg won the nightcap, 4-2, leaving the Wolverines with a record of 5-5 in the CAC, 12-12 overall.

In the opener, Nina Marcano went 3-for-4 and finished just a double shy of the cycle, ripping a two-run home run and a record-setting 18th career triple in the game. Ashley Royer also hit a home run.

UD’s Gearhart wins CAA award: Delaware sophomore shortstop Leanna Gearhart was named the Colonial Athletic Association Softball Player of the Week.

She batted .400 during the Blue Hens’ five games last week, leading the team with 12 runs scored, 10 stolen bases and four walks.
