Delaware State finished with a season-high in points but it wasn’t enough as the Hornets dropped a 96-95 double-overtime decision to Florida A&M in MEAC men’s basketball on Monday night.

The contest, played at the Rattlers’ Al Lawson Center, was tied at 72-72 at the end of regulation and 84-84 after the first OT.

The loss was the second in a row for DelState (2-7 MEAC, 4-20 overall) while FAMU (3-6, 7-15) snapped a three-game losing streak.

Delaware State freshman guard Devin Morgan was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Rookie of the week for the third time this season.

He scored 27 points, dished out eight assists and nailed eight three-point field goals in two games for the Hornets last week.

His play was highlighted by a team-high 15 points vs. Bethune-Cookman last Saturday. Morgan hit five three-pointers in the game (5-for-8), tops for a DSU player this season.

Morgan is tops on the Hornets and 25th in the MEAC in scoring at 10.5 points per game.

WOMEN, Florida A&M 86, Delaware State 56: The Hornets fell behind by 17 in the first quarter before dropping the MEAC contest.

For the Hornets (4-5 MEAC, 7-15 overall), it their fourth straight loss to the Rattlers (6-3, 12-10).

Delaware State had only seven players available for the game. Leading scorers Mikah Aldridge (12.4 ppg) and forward Amber Bogard (10.8 ppg) were both sidelined.

Three Hornets scored in double figures, led by guard Aaliyah Davis registering a career-high 14 points. Freshman Bobbi Floyd also had a career-high with 13 points, while Nikkei Blackburn had 10 points and pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.

The difference in the game, however, was FAMU scoring 29 points off 24 DSU turnovers.

Boys’ basketball

St. Thomas More 53, St. Andrews 52: Zion Cole (15 points) sank five of the Ravens’ seven three-pointers as they edged the Cardinals.

St. Thomas More (12-3) built a 38-31 lead going into the fourth quarter. Aaron Scott added 14 points with Corey Gordon scoring 11.

St. Andrews hit 10 three-pointers in the contest.

Wrestling

Cape Henlopen 34, St. Georges 26: Anthony Caruso (113 pounds) posted a 10-5 decision in the match’s final bout to clinch the Vikings’ win on Saturday.

Cape also got pins from Cory Lawson (160) and Christopher Handlin (170).

College track & field

Hillman sets UD mark: Polytech High grad Sarah Hillman, a sophomore at Delaware, captured the shot put with a school record toss to help the Blue Hens to a seventh-place finish at the Villanova Invitational Saturday evening.

Hillman was the Hens’ lone champion at Villanova as she won her second shot put title of the season and her fifth career indoor title. She tossed the shot put 47-feet, 2.25-inches to capture the title and break the UD record of 46-5 set by Rachel Young in 2007.

It also qualified her for the ECAC Championships in March. Hillman also placed seventh in the weight throw with a distance of 50-7.25.

Wesley men place second: Wesley’s men finished second out of 17 teams on Saturday at the Frank Colden Invitational, hosted by Ursinus.

Anthony Simpson, DaJahn Lowery, and Greg Taylor finished first, second, and third in the 60-meter dash, posting respective times of 6.77, 6.93, and 6.94. Wesley runners took second and fifth in the 200, with Simpson crossing at 22.62. Lowery crossed at 22.71.

Cartlon Sheppard took first in the 400 with a time of 51.04. In the 60 hurdles Roland Attoh-Okine finished first (8.43) and Henry Miller finished fifth (8.79). William Taylor Jr. finished second in the 800 with a time of 1:57.65.

Wolverine women also second: The Wesley women’s squad also placed second out of 17 teams at the Frank Colden Invitational.

Evelina Sloboh and Alexia Mitchell finished 1-2 in the 60 meters, posting respective times of 7.70 and 7.83. Elizsha Streeter took the 200, finishing with a 26.13, edging the second-place finisher by .07 seconds.

Wesley runners finished second and fourth in the 400 with Briana Artis crossing in 1:00.84 and Quadira Minus following close behind at 1:01.07. In the 60-meter hurdles, Sonyel Williams finished third (9.56) while Ashley Williams took fourth (9.57).

Wesley’s speed relays dominated, taking first in the 800 with a time of 1:48.16 and the 1,600 (4:04.47).
