Caesar Rodney High opened the DIAA boys’ lacrosse state tournament with a decisive 20-2 win over Concord on Tuesday night.

The victory puts the third-seeded Riders (14-2) in the state quarterfinals for at least the seventh straight year.

CR will host a game on Saturday against the winner of today’s first-round matchup between Dover and Milford. The No. 11 Senators and sixth-seeded Buccaneers square off in Milford at 7 p.m.

Leading 5-1, CR outscored the No. 14 Raiders, 9-0, in the second quarter to open up a 14-1 halftime lead. Thomas Aloe and Sean MacLeish had three goals apiece to lead the Riders.

Luke Rankin, David Schmidt (3 assists) and Brinen Lefevre all added two goals for CR, which outshot Concord, 42-10. Goalie Tyler Gross made three saves.

Salesianum 17, Delmar 2: The top-seeded Sals rolled to the opening-round victory at Baynard Stadium.

Sallies improves to 13-3 while the 16th-seeded Wildcats close the season at 8-8.

GIRLS, Cape Henlopen 17, Ursuline 4: The top-seeded Vikings jumped out to a 13-1 halftime lead before rolling to the win in the state tournament quarterfinals.

Cape (12-4), the six-time defending state champion, will host No. 4 Tower Hill (12-3) on Thursday in a semifinal contest tentatively scheduled for 7 p.m. The Vikings beat the Hillers, 12-7, in their regular-season finale on May 8.

Sarah Tappan had five goals and a pair of assists to pace Cape on Tuesday. Jordan Brown (3 goals), Lexi Woodruff (2 goals) and Cam Wicks (2 goals) were also multiple-goal scores for the Vikings while Lizzie Frederick had a goal and four assists.

Tennis

CR boys, girls share lead: Caesar Rodney High is tied for the team lead of both the DIAA boys’ and girls’ tennis state tournaments going into today’s semifinals.

Several quarterfinal matches in both the girls’ and boys’ tourneys had to be completed on Tuesday after being stopped by rain on Monday. The semifinals are scheduled for today with the finals now on Thursday.

In the girls’ team standings, the Riders and Tower Hill are tied with 15 points after advancing all five of their entries into the semis. Archmere is third with 14 points.

CR faces Tower Hill in three of today’s five semifinals.

In the one big upset from Tuesday’s girls’ action, Dover’s unseeded team of Emma Patterson and Hayley Scheir knocked off top-seeded Josyln Gardner and Alicia Thompson of Wilmington Friends, 6-3, 7-5. It was the first loss of the season for the Quakers’ pair (13-1).

Patterson and Scheir are now 3-0 in the tournament and haven’t lost a set.

On the boys’ side, the Riders are also tied with Tower Hill for first place with 14 points. Tatnall, Wilmington Friends and St. Andrews are all tied for third with 11 points.

Advancing to the semis for the Riders boys were Trey Parker (second singles), Donnan Gravelle (third singles), Alex Feuerstein-David Haynes (first doubles) and Neil Patel-Cyrus Shanehasaz (second doubles).

The lone Henlopen Conference player still alive at boys’ first singles is Milford’s Colt Williamson. The second-seeded junior takes on unseeded Rishi Shah of St. Andrews in today’s semis.

Baseball

Sussex Tech wins title: Sussex Tech High was determined to be the Henlopen Conference champion in baseball on Tuesday.

The Ravens tied for the league title with both Dover and Cape Henlopen after the three all went 10-3 against Henlopen teams. The three also went 1-1 against each other.

The deadlock was broken by comparing how each team did against the next highest-finishing squads in the Henlopen Northern Division. All three teams beat fourth-place Smyrna but Cape was the only team to lose to fifth-place Sussex Central.

With the Vikings eliminated from the tie, the deadlock was decided by the head-to-head result between Dover and Sussex Tech. The Ravens won the conference title by virtue of their 4-3 win over the Senators on April 16.

Other than the automatic berth that goes to the champion, the Henlopen title has no other bearing on state tournament seedings, which are determined by a points system. The state tourney committee is going to meet on Thursday with the bracket slated to be announced by 8 p.m.

Sussex Central 20, Laurel 0: The Golden Knights capped off the five-inning Henlopen Conference win with nine runs in the fourth.

Central is now 9-4 in conference, 11-7 overall.

Del. Military 3, Polytech 1: Vincent Ruggerio pitched a six-hitter with eight strikeouts as the Seahawks downed the Panthers.

Cole Garey hit a homerun in the top of the seventh inning for Polytech while Logan Olshenske had a pair of hits.

St. Thomas More 12, Delmarva Christian 9: Winning pitcher Sean Pool struck out 13 as the Ravens took control with seven runs in the fourth and five more in the fifth.

Pool, Patrick McGee, Corey Gordon and Matt Torbert all had two hits for St. Thomas More.

Micah McGee went 4-for-5 for the Royals.

Softball

Woodbridge 2, Ursuline 0: Woodbridge blanked Ursuline in a nonconference contest on Tuesday.

Cape Henlopen 15, St. Mark’s 1: The Vikings cruised to the nonconference victory to finish with a record of 9-9.

Delmarva Christian 22, St. Thomas More 5: The Royals picked up the victory in a Diamond State Conference contest.

College baseball

Seven Hens honored: Seven University of Delaware baseball players received All-Colonial Athletic Association honors on Tuesday.

Zach Lopes and Norm Donkin were named second-team All-CAA, while Joe Giacchino and Adam Davis were named to the third team.

In addition, Diaz Nardo (Cape Henlopen) and Ron Marinaccio were selected to the All-Rookie team and criminal justice major Greg Olenski received CAA All-Academic accolades.

Lopes posted a .362 batting average and led the Blue Hens with 68 hits. The senior captain also had 12 doubles, three triples, three home runs, and 24 RBI.

Donkin posted a team-high four triples and 13 stolen bases. The senior right fielder had a .333 batting average and was third on the team with 26 RBI and 11 doubles.

The Hens will begin the CAA
