Dan Candeloro earned his first victory as Caesar Rodney High football coach as the Riders defeated Glen Mills (Pa.) 44-22 on the road, Friday night.

Mike Clavier and Najee Whitted each had a pair of rushing touchdowns and Quentin Ivy returned a fumble 70 yards for a score. Brian Lewis also scored a rushing touchdown.

The Riders move to 1-2 on the season.

Milford 42, St. Andrew’s 7: Milford’s David Bowman scored two touchdowns and Rashawn Price,  Dominyc Hovington, Clay Stevenson and Marcus Correa each scored one for the victory against St. Andrew’s.

Cape Henlopen 34, Indian River 0: Kolbi Wright scored twice and rushed for more than 100 yards in the Vikings’ victory.

Cape also got rushing touchdowns from Rasheed Woods, Jeremiah Smack and Raiquan Mosley.

Sussex Tech 55, Laurel 7: Justin Hill ran for two touchdowns and threw for another as the Ravens earned the win at home Friday night.

Patrick Griffin had a pair of rushing touchdowns as well, one from 75 yards out and the other 25, Traevon Dixon scored the lone touchdown for Laurel on a 32 yard run.

Caravel 32, Delmar 24: The Buccaneers and Wildcats went to double overtime on Friday, with the Bucs edging Delmar out for the victory.

Field hockey

Smyrna 1, Brandywine 0: Kaila Hindt scored in overtime off an assist from Madeline Price to give the Eagles the victory at the University of Delaware’s Rullo Stadium as part of the annual “Turf Bowl” game.

Volleyball

Cape Henlopen 3, Polytech 1: The Vikings won the last three sets 25-23, 25-16 and 25-17 after the Panthers had opened the first with a 25-22 win.

College field hockey

Duke 5, Delaware 1: Cape Henlopen High product Jacki Coveleski returned to action and scored a goal in the first half to tie the game, but the No. 12 ranked University of Delaware field hockey team could not add any more offense and suffered its first loss of the season with a setback to No. 6 Duke University at rainy Katz Stadium Friday night.

Duke (6-3) took a 2-1 lead into halftime and then tallied three more goals in the second half to win going away. The Blue Devils outshot the Hens 20-12 and held an 8-6 advantage in penalty corners. The five goals, 20 shots, and eight corners were the most allowed by the Blue Hens this season.

Delaware, off to its best start in school history, fell to 8-1 as the Blue Hens suffered their first loss since an NCAA Tournament setback last Nov. 12.

Women’s soccer

College of Charleston 1, Delaware 0: The Blue Hens failed to generate any offense Friday night in their Colonial Athletic Association opener as the Blue Hens dropped a 1-0 verdict to College of Charleston at Patriots Point Stadium.

Delaware (5-5, 0-1 CAA), which dropped its second straight game, was able to outshoot the Cougars by a 12-8 margin but couldn’t hit the back of the net and suffered its fourth shutout loss of the season and its second straight blanking.

College of Charleston (7-3, 1-0 CAA), which won its fourth straight game and posted its third straight shutout, tallied its goal early in the second half when Jessica Shifer took a feed from Michaela Herrmann and scored from the middle of the box just 1:33 into the second half.
