DOVER — A violent weekend throughout Kent County continued into Monday with two afternoon shooting incidents — likely related, police said — occurring within a couple minutes of each other in Dover.
From Friday night through Sunday night, police in Dover, Milford (a reported homicide) and Smyrna investigated a slew of gun-related incidents. An alleged Milton shooting — possibly accidental, police said — that wounded two also was reported in northern Sussex County.
More responses followed as a new week began.
According to the Dover Police Department, an 18-year-old victim was treated Monday for a non-puncture gunshot wound to his foot at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital about three hours after a shooting incident at Dover Park at 1210 White Oak Road.
Police said the teenager was wounded as an unidentified male suspect reportedly fired approximately six rounds just after 3 p.m. The teen later went to the hospital for treatment, police said.
Authorities said several .45 caliber shell casings were located at the Dover Park scene. Police believe the suspect may have been on foot at the time of the shooting, spokesman Cpl. Mark Hoffman said.
The first incident at Manchester Square occurred approximately one to two minutes earlier when multiple shots reportedly were fired from the inside of a maroon/dark red Chevrolet Equinox traveling through the area of Manchester Square and Stevenson Drive, authorities said.
Police said investigation into whether the shootings involved targeting individuals was ongoing.
“Given the close proximity and timing, we believe they (the shootings) are likely related,” Cpl. Hoffman said.
According to authorities, a large group of people were in the vicinity of the Dover Park shooting, and it was unknown how many were nearby at Manchester Square due to detective unavailability.
Several .22 caliber rounds were found near where the shots were fired from the vehicle at Manchester Square, according to authorities.
Police said no suspect descriptions or possible motives have been developed “at this time.”

The daytime shootings allowed Dover Police to utilize “numerous resources” including special units, Cpl. Hoffman said. Officers investigated at both scenes for about 90 minutes to two hours and a description of witness cooperation was not immediately available.
“Retaliatory shootings/violence is always a concern, but the department will continue to take a proactive approach to include the recent addition of targeted patrols in Dover Housing Authority neighborhoods,” Cpl. Hoffman said.
Two shootings and a violent assault were reported on Saturday, including a Milford homicide that left a 40-year-old man dead during what police described as a home invasion in the 500 block of North Walnut Street.
Early Saturday morning in Dover, police said a 35-year-old male victim was shot once in the right hip during an attempted robbery in a Persimmon Tree Apartments building common area. The apartment complex is on Persimmon Tree Lane
Also Saturday morning, police said a 50-year-old man was knocked unconscious during a robbery that yielded cash from his wallet.
Friday night in Dover, police said a man allegedly was pistol whipped multiple times in the head and face during a gunpoint robbery in the Pine Grove Apartments parking lot at 255 Webbs Lane. Police said an arrest warrant was obtained for William Lewis, 32, of 32 Vanessa Drive in Dover.
On Sunday night in Smyrna, a person was shot during an apparent failed robbery attempt in the Sunnyside Acres Development. Citing the nature of the ongoing investigation, police released few details but said information would be released as warranted.
Earlier Sunday in Milton, two persons were injured when a firearm discharged in what state police believed was an accidental shooting at a residence. An 21-year-old man who police said lived at the home was arrested after the alleged incident, which wounded two relatives.
