The Wesley College men’s basketball team continued its string of tough games, falling to NCAA Division I Elon, 106-77, on Sunday afternoon.

Jordan Johnson and Rasahn Brinkley led the Wolverines (1-6) in scoring with 19 points apiece. Both were efficient from the floor with Johnson going 8-for-10 and Brinkley hitting 8-of-12 from the field.

Wesley hung with Elon (6-3) for the first 15 minutes of the game, and even held an 11-8 lead. The Wolverines continued to battle and made the score 26-25 when Daniel Toney drained a three-pointer with just over five minutes remaining in the first half.

But Elon finished the half on a 16-4 run to take a 42-29 lead into the halftime break.

In the second half, both teams ratcheted up the pace of play. Jordan Johnson opened the second half by scoring 10 straight points for the Wolverines, helping them keep up with the Phoenix.

Wesley cut the lead to 56-45 with two straight three-pointers from Anthony Bowers and Daniel Toney at the 13:35 mark, but it was as close as the Wolverines would draw in the second half. Elon stretched its lead with three straight three-pointers by Tanner Samson and kept building it throughout the rest of the second half as it pulled away to a 106-77 victory.

J.W. Lawson chipped in with 11 points while Wayne Lennon and Daniel Toney each netted eight for the Wolverines. Lennon also led the team with 11 rebounds and seven steals. Wesley shot a season-high 61.5 percent from three-point range, going 8-for-13.

WOMEN, Delaware State 66, Wagner 44: Mikah Aldridge netted 17 points as the Hornets (2-7) picked up their second of the season on Sunday.

DelState outscored Wagner (2-6) by a 25-9 margin in the second quarter to open up a 20-point halftime lead.

NaJai Pollard (13 points, 10 rebounds), Amber Boggard (12 oints) and Bpbbi Floyd (10 points) also scored in double figures for the Hornets. DelState never trailed in the contest, going up by as many as 23 points in the third quarter.
