Letter to the Editor: A respite from violence and a prayer for peace

Posted

This is taken from Deacon Scott Landis’ homily at the “Prayers for Peace” service held at the outdoor grotto Tuesday evening at St. Bernadette’s Church in Harrington:

“We can’t legislate peace in the world. There will always be people filled with hate, and sometimes, those people will lead governments that are filled with hate. There will always be wars and rumors of wars. There will always be violent people, and sometimes, that violence will fall on us.

“But the bottom line is, we can’t do it alone; the only way we can achieve that peace that Jesus gives us is to pray for it. The only way to have peace in the world is to pray for it. The only way to have peace is to ask Jesus’ blessed mother to intercede for us.

“Remember that ‘whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy, meditate on these things.’ Because these are the things that come from God — these are the things of peace, the peace of Christ, not of the world.”
