HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — Delaware recorded its highest scoring game of the season, but the Blue Hens could not slow down a high-powered Hofstra attack as the Pride posted a 90-80 victory in both teams’ Colonial Athletic Association opener Thursday afternoon at the Mack Sports Complex.

Sophomore guard Anthony Mosley scored a career-high 20 points while Marvin King-Davis added 19 points and 11 rebounds for his league-leading seventh double-double of the season for the Blue Hens (5-7, 0-1 CAA), who dropped their fourth consecutive game. Cazmon Hayes contributed 16 points while Kory Holden finished with 13 points and six assists for Delaware, which shot 44.9 percent and held a 42-37 rebounding advantage.

Juan’ya Green paced Hofstra (9-4, 1-0 CAA) with 19 points and 11 assists on the day for the Pride, which put all five starters in double figures.

Hofstra, which was picked first in the CAA preseason poll, shot 48.5 percent from the floor and knocked down 14 of 33 three-point attempts.

“I really loved our guys’ effort, they gave it everything they had and played to exhaustion,” said Blue Hen head coach Monté Ross. “I’m proud of the way the guys fought and hung in there; we didn’t get the win, but we got better. We got hurt with our transition defense - the guys were trying to get back but they just wore down. Anthony (Mosley) was really aggressive today, he picked his spots and was able to get to the rim.”

Both teams started the game shooting well from the field but after it was a 22-21 game eight minutes in, Delaware went scoreless for three minutes and Hofstra look advantage, scoring eight straight points to go up 30-21 on a Denton Koon basket at the 9:22 mark.

Later in the half Delaware used a 10-0 run, including the final seven points by Mosley, to go back in front 38-37 with 3:42 on the clock. But the Blue Hens missed their final four field goal attempts from there, as Hofstra responded to take a 43-40 lead into the break.

Hayes opened the second half with a three-pointer to tie the game but Hofstra quickly answered with a 10-point spurt, going in front 53-43 and forcing a Delaware timeout with 18:10 remaining.

Holden stopped the run with a jumper, while a basket by King-Davis cut the margin to five at 61-56 with 13:24 to play. Delaware was still down just seven when Maurice Jeffers and King-Davis scored consecutive buckets to make it an 82-75 game with 4:534 remaining, but Hofstra scored the next six points to put the game away.

Delaware, which wrapped up a stretch of six consecutive road games, will play its CAA home opener on Saturday when the Blue Hens host James Madison at noon on Comcast SportsNet.
