Garlow: Recent letter about electric vehicles makes valid points

Posted

Jeanette Robinson’s letter in support of electric vehicles rightly points out the harm that gasoline cars and trucks and other oil-based transportation cause for our environment (“Our energy future is a matter of ‘life or death’"). Not only does the carbon pollution from polluting vehicles add to the climate change crisis, but it also adds to conventional pollution, like soot and smog, which damages our lungs.

Then, too, there is the problem of overseas dictators in Russia and the OPEC countries, which profit from everyone’s dependency on oil and use that wealth to hurt other countries, like Ukraine. Electric vehicles will help to reduce our addiction to oil, which President George W. Bush warned us about.
