Former Blue Hen Davis headed for Syracuse

NEWARK — Jyare Davis has decided he’s going to go from being a Blue Hen to an Orangeman.

The former Delaware basketball standout announced on social media on Monday that he’ll spend his final season of eligibility at Syracuse.

Davis, who was the CAA Tournament MVP when the Hens won the league title in 2022, entered the transfer portal on March 18, just after Delaware’s season ended.

“I think it’s the perfect blend of things that I wanted when I entered the portal,” Davis quoted in a story on 247sports.com. “There are a lot of guys that enter the portal to chase money and all of that but I wanted to chase a bigger stage, an opportunity to continue (to) prove myself as a basketball player and all of those things were provided by coach Red at Syracuse.”

A 6-foot-7, 215-pound forward, Davis made second-team All-CAA this past season and was a third-team pick the year before. Davis spent his first college season at Providence before transferring to Delaware.

In his last year with the Hens, Davis averaged 17.1 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. He finished with 1,323 points in his Delaware career.

Davis chose Syracuse after visiting the New York school this past weekend. The Orange went 20-12, with an 11-9 mark in the ACC last winter in its first season under coach Adrian Autry.
