DOVER — A 28-year-old Felton man faces theft-related charges for two separate incidents Saturday morning.

Dover police said officers arrived at Bayhealth Kent General Hospital around 7:05 for reports of a suspect breaking into cars.

When approached by hospital security, the suspect, Joseph Graden, allegedly fled the scene. He was found in the bushes nearby and arrested without incident, Dover spokesman Master Cpl. Mark Hoffman said.

Mr. Graden allegedly broke into a Ford Escape, damaging it in the process. Police said he left his backpack, containing his wallet and driver’s license, inside the car.

He was arrested and charged with criminal mischief and criminal trespassing in the second-degree and was released by Justice of the Peace Court 7 on an unsecured bond after being arraigned.

At about 10:36, a Dover Police Department employee allegedly spotted Mr. Graden breaking into his car, which was parked in front of the station.

Mr. Graden fled but was detained a short time later by Dover police, Master Cpl. Hoffman said. He allegedly threw a bracelet taken from the car during the process.

Police said he damaged the car’s glove department, center console lock and back-seat insulation.

He was committed to James T. Vaughn Correctional Center on $2,500 secured bond for theft under $1,000, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, criminal mischief and criminal trespassing in the second-degree, police said.
