DOVER — One person is dead after a  two-vehicle crash on U.S. 13 Wednesday night in north Dover.

According to Delaware State Police spokesperson Master Cpl. Gary Fournier, the crash occurred around 9 p.m. as Martha T. Barbo, 52, of Dover and who was operating a 2000 Toyota Corolla, had stopped at a stop sign facing westbound in a private parking lot that intersects with North DuPont Highway (U.S. 13) northbound lanes, just north of Dyke Branch Road.

Davilliah J. Green, 18, of Magnolia, was operating a 2011 Cadillac SRX northbound in the left lane of U.S. 13 when Ms. Barbo attempted to cross the northbound lanes of U.S. 13. The Cadillac struck the driver’s side door of the Corolla which then rotated clockwise 90 degrees and came to a stop in the roadway. The Cadillac continued northbound crossing the grassy median and both southbound lanes of U.S. 13 before coming to a stop after striking a ditch with its front bumper.

Ms. Barbo, who was properly restrained, sustained traumatic blunt force trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ms. Green, also properly restrained, was transported to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital where she was treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.

U.S. 13 northbound was closed at Dyke Branch for about three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
