DOVER – Octavio Lopez-Hernandez, a 27-year-old from Dover, is facing felony driving under the influence charges after a traffic stop early Saturday morning in Dover, according to Senior Cpl. Leonard DeMalto, a spokesman for the Delaware State Police.
A trooper on patrol saw a silver Nissan Rogue traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on North Dupont Highway near Scarborough Road at around 1:50 a.m.
The trooper stopped the Nissan and contacted the driver and only occupant, Mr. Lopez-Hernandez. The trooper smelled alcohol on his breath and detected signs of impairment.
Senior Cpl. Leonard said Mr. Lopez-Hernandez was subsequently taken into custody for DUI. A computer check of his driving record showed that he has seven prior convictions for DUI.
Mr. Lopez-Hernandez was taken to Troop 9 in Odessa and charged with driving under the influence, 7th offense or greater (felony); driving while suspended or revoked; failure to have insurance identification in possession; and speeding.
He was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington on $20,201 secured bond.
