CR boys, Cape girls take Henlopen swimming championships

FELTON — Caesar Rodney High and Cape Henlopen captured the boys’ and girls’ team titles respectively as the Henlopen Conference swimming championships were held at Lake Forest on Saturday.

CR boys, Cape girls take Henlopen swimming championships

The Riders and Vikings also swept the Vince Morris Outstanding Swimmer of the Year trophies. CR’s Aaron Green took the honor on the boys’ side with Cape’s Molly Weeks winning it in the girls’ meet. CR’s boys finished with 323 points to outdistance second-place Cape Henlopen, which had 241.   Green set meet records in winning both the 200-meter freestyle (1:57.06) and the 50 freestyle (23.72). The senior also swam the anchor leg on both the winning 200 (1:45.14) and 400 freestyle relay teams (3:54.33). Also in the boys’ meet, Cape’s Jack Weeks — Molly’s brother — broke the meet record in the 200 IM with a time of 2:12.90. In the girls’ meet, Cape Henlopen totalled 341 points while second-place Sussex Tech had 185. Molly Weeks set a new mark in the 100 freestyle (1:01.18). A sophomore, Weeks also won the 200 freestyle (2:15.34) as well as swimming the anchor leg of both the winning 200 medley relay (2:07.86) and 400 freestle relay (4:28.85). Cape Henlopen's Bill Geppert was selected as the Henlopen boys' Coach of the Year with CR's Maureen VanOrman named the girls' conference Coach of the Year.
