Construction begins on new playground in downtown Milford

Posted

MILFORD — Construction has begun on a new playground in downtown Milford, one of several improvements to the Mispillion Riverwalk area slated for completion this year.

Yellow-vested workers with contractor Gateway Construction were on site Thursday, along with several pieces of construction equipment; a bulldozer leveled the ground.

The playground will include a pirate ship-styled structure, in keeping with the city’s shipbuilding heritage.

The project will be completed by the end of the spring or summer, the Delaware State News previously reported. It is one of several big improvements coming to the downtown area. Other upgrades on the way include a pickleball court and new, lighted handrails for the riverwalk.

The city has called these projects just “Phase 1” of a series of improvements; there are also tentative plans to build a picnic pavilion and public restrooms along the river.
